Step-by-step Guide: How to Report (& Remove) an Unauthorized Photo of Your Under 13 Years Old Child on FaceBook

By

FaceBook Help For Parents:

  • Has somebody put up a photo of your underage child on their FaceBook Profile or on a FaceBook Page?

  • Have you asked them nicely to remove it, only to have them ignore you?

If so, then this is the perfect how-to-hub for you!

(Please note: I advise you to do all this on your own computer, not on a public one. If it is not possible to use your own, then use a friend or family member's computer!)

A step-by-step guide:

  1. Open your browser and log into your FaceBook account. If you do not have a FaceBook Profile, skip to the next step.
  2. Come back to this hub and click on the following link: Report an Unauthorized Photo - Under 13 Year Old Child

  3. On that page, you will need to provide the relevant details, as follows: Your full name, your child's full name and date of birth, your postal address, your phone number, your email address, the URL (link location) of the photo of your child.
  4. Once all this is done, you will be at the bottom of the report page where you will be asked to agree that you "declare, under penalty of perjury, that you are the legal guardian of, or have parental rights for, the child under 13 years old depicted in the photo" that you are reporting. Select "Agree".
  5. Finally, you will be asked to provide your electronic signature. This simply means that you need to enter the exact name that appears on your FaceBook profile. If you do not have a FaceBook profile, just enter your real first and last name.
  6. IMPORTANT: Do not press the "submit" button yet!
  7. You should record all of the information you have entered in the report. Do so by highlighting all the text on the report page, right-click and copy it, then paste it into a new text document. Include the date/time, and the URL of the report page (right click on the link above and select "copy link location").
  8. Be sure to save the document to your document folder, using an appropriate title.
  9. Now you can hit the "submit" button on the report page.
  10. They may give you a reference number at this point. If so, make sure you record the reference number in the text document mentioned in >8< above.
  11. And you're done!
  12. Make sure you check back in a few days to verify that the photo has been removed!
  13. If you are trying to remove a video or other content of your under-age child, then the process is the same as above, but you need to use the following report page:

Report Unauthorized Content - Under 13 Year Old Child

I have done this. The photos are still up, and no contact from facebook it has been 3 days. How long does it take for the pics to be removed?

Great information........... I am not a huge fan of social networking site............ think you know why! Nicely done! Kaie

Thanks Kaie. I used to watch what I said on their, then I realized that I could fight fire with fire by making the most of online anonymity, just like HE does.... Hopefully he never makes the connection between "Sal", the masked-online-super-hero-genius and my real life, mild mannered alter ego.... (lol!)

Mom of little ones, I wrote this hub in answer to a question from one of my readers. I have not had to do this myself so unfortunately I cannot tell you how long it will take.

Did FB provide you with a reference number for your complaint? If so, try contacting them again, and quote the number.

You could also try looking at the discussions in the help center, and if there is no answer in there already, you can use the my questions feature to ask other fb users what their experience has been after making such a report.

If you still have no luck, then perhaps you should try contacting your country's online media / internet / communications authority. They may be able to enforce the removal of the pictures on your behalf.

ive reported images of my under 13 year old children that are on facebook without authority there is an injunction and other court orders in place. The pictures are still there even after l have had an reply from facebook and they are still being distributed to people the children are protected from what can l do?

safe-at-last 16 months ago

Sarah, If you have court orders and facebook has acknowledged your complaint and not done anything, I would bring it to the attention of your national communications and media authority, asking for their advice and/or support in getting Facebook to take action, and I would also contact your local law enforcement (or specific police contact/ docs worker who you have a rapport with from previous assistance rendered regarding the protected child/ren) and ask them if the defendant/s restrained by the injunction/court orders are violating the order by receiving the images, or the people distributing them are breaking the law. Sorry I cannot give you any tried and true advice, but I am just a mum who writes, not a professional. I hope you are successful. Good Luck. Mel

attempting to remove my 6 yr. old child's photos from the facebook of Jim Cover Jr. I passionately do not want my child's photos on the internet in any manner. I am the single parent to Olivia Rose Cover & it is my right & responsibility to protect her safety & integrity. Please have photos removed A.S.A.P or I will pursue legal action against the individual & the provider

I am trying to get photos of my 13 year old daughter removed from other people's facebooks and have been unsuccessful. The poster is 13 and has told me she will not remove the photos. I then emailed her mother and she has done nothing. My daughter is only 13---hardly an adult---and I am the mother. It is my responsibility to keep her safe, out of harms way, and to teach her what is and is not appropriate. What can I do??? She is STILL a minor and FB does not acknowledge the fact she is still a MINOR.

What are your suggestions? I'm going to call local authorities.

Concerned mama..

Unfortunatly there does not seem to be a way to protect our children from having their photos posted. If I can not afford an attorney, there appears to be no way to have the images removed. Reported to FB, will have to wait for likely nothing to happen. I wish i could speak with a Facebook employee, at least send an email.

How can i do this if the person that uploaded the pictures has blocked me so i can not access the url where the pictures are?

Alex 3 months ago

This isn't working because it is her profile pic and the only url that is coming up is the one for her facebook page not the actual picture itself. I really need help

how can i have photos of my child reported if im blocked from the pics??

Deb 6 weeks ago

I have a similar issue. My ex-husbands girlfriend has posted pictures of my daughter on her Facebook profile and wall. I have asked her to take them down, to no avail. I can't report the URL address to Facebook as I am blocked. My other problem is that my daughter is 17. Is there a law that we protect only children under 13? The other problem is that this woman has posted pictures of my daughter in a bikini. Sexual assault of young women is most common in the late high school and college years. As a parent, is there anything to do to protect my daughter's safety.
