David & Goliath: The Sarah Connor Effect?

A few years ago, a very special friend of mine, who was trying to help me deal with my abuse, introduced me to an idea of his which he calls "The Sarah Connor Effect".

He said he believes that most people are guided by or drawn to either the Darkness or The Light, or elements of both, through out their lives, and that both Darkness & The Light try to draw more people to them by selecting Agents or Warriors from among the people, who are then used to do their bidding.

This is just another aspect of the never ending battle between The Light of Creation and The Darkness of the Void, as is day/night, good/evil, love/hate, life/death etc...

He says the Light of Creation is much stronger than Darkness because whatever The Light creates is capable of creating more light, while whatever The Darkness destroys is gone forever. The Light therefore uses it's Agents to share the Light for the purpose of creating more light (enlightenment), while Darkness uses it's agents to stop Agents of the Light from carrying out their mission. Because Light is more powerful, the darkness often has to send many agents against just one agent of the Light... I'm sure you get the idea.

Anyway, my "Sarah Connor Effect" Hub is a collection of poems and other bits of writing that I have done over the years since he inspired me with his concept. Here they are...

Consider the eternal war between Darkness and The Light:
It is a universal struggle that is both seen and unseen,
And both sides have agents who do their bidding.
Light or Dark,
Good or Evil,

Love or Hate,
Yang or Ying,
Angel or Demon,
David or Goliath,

Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader,

Sarah Connor or The Terminator:
Every agent has a counterpart, an opposing agent.
This is The Sarah Connor Effect.

So, are you a creator or a terminator?

Guess I was wrong all along,
I'm not a terminator, I'm a creator.
Now I just have to create my world around me (again),
But this time I need to make it more terminator resistant...
Sometimes I wish I did not understand any of the quantum physics behind certain things
It makes me fear other things even more...
On the other hand, knowledge is power.
Enlightened, I can liberate myself and mine from those fears,
And with that freedom, the brilliance that lies within us shall manifest.
As our gifts of intelligence, empathy, creativity, compassion, adaptability, passion and wisdom start to show,
Our light will shine more and more brightly,
And our love for each other will be all the support we need

To ensure our light never dims again,
But only grows brighter.
How bright will their light shine... if I do this right?
May our light then become a beacon to others who are lost in the darkness,
And may it help them find there own light.
There is no choice between darkness & light.
Darkness is but the absence of light.
My light will never again be dimmed,
I will prevail!

I will not forget the purpose
Of embarking on this journey,
Lest I lose direction and
Fail to reach my destination.
And though the path I follow
Is fraught with danger,

Fear and anger

Do not live in the Darkness of the past,

So take responsibility for your own happiness,

And be the author of your own destiny.

There is no choice between Darkness & Light,

Darkness is but the absence of Light.

And how boring would the nothingness of Darkness be,

Compared to the Light of Creation,

In a Universe of infinite possibilities?

You have the Power, now use it!

Sarah Connor was a survivor, and a creator. She found the inner strength she never knew she had and used it to survive, so she could create the one who's light would show mankind the way to salvation. She lost everything by doing what she had to do, and even when her own kind refused to believe in her, chained her in darkness and tried to break her, she never gave up. She believed in herself and in the power of the light. She prevailed.

After the battles have been fought, and the War has been won, the dust will settle. It is then that some of you will feel angry with those who have hurt you. You may think that giving in to your rage will make you feel better, but somewhere deep inside, a part of you knows that doing so would only give you a temporary and false sense of redemption. It would not give you back your self respect. It would mean that in the end, they had won and it would make you no better than them. It would not teach anybody anything, and you would not learn anything new from it.

You won't find your self respect by trying to make the terminators of your past respect you. They are not actually capable of respecting anyone, and even if they were, why would you want their respect anyway? They are insignificant parasites and the only power they have is that which you give them, or allow them to take. Give them nothing. Do not even waste your energy thinking about them, it only gives them more power in this quantum universe. Any energy spent on them would be wasted as they have nothing to give in return. You cannot make them feel remorse for their greed, they cannot help what they are, and do not want to.

If you must feel anything, feel sorry for them, for they are lost in the cold darkness of pain and will never know the warmth of true love. They are too blind to see the possibilities of walking in the light. Let go of your hate and forgive them instead, not to their face or in a message, but secretly, in your own heart. Do not forgive them for the purpose of giving them another chance, but to give yourself the chance to let go. Then you must forgive yourself too. If you can do all that, you will take back some of the power they took from you, and render them forever powerless against you.

Hate only feeds the darkness and leaves you cold, alone and empty. Let the universe seek its own revenge. Karma will be punishment enough, so leave them to their fate. You have your own journey to return to now, so find the path again, follow the light, take responsibility for your own happiness, and become the author of your own destiny.

Self respect cannot be found anywhere but in your own heart. It cannot be given to you, only you can find it. Self respect comes from within, from reaching for your dreams, from the satisfaction of achievement, from knowing you have something to offer, from the joy you take in the creation of things that will entertain and educate others, from inspiring others to greater things, from giving of yourself for the greater good, from providing people with an insight that will foster empathy, from sharing your knowledge with those who seek enlightenment, from the pride felt with each small success, from having a sense of purpose that gives you direction, from forgiving yourself for your mistakes, from gaining wisdom from your experiences, and from never giving in to failure, but always having the courage to try again.

Self respect will increase with self love, and by believing in and trusting yourself, instead of waiting for others to do so. Only when you have achieved that, will you feel worthy of the respect of others, and only then will you be able to open your heart to the warmth of their love. Find the light and add your own to its brilliance. Love and believe in yourself. Then the love and warmth you seek will be able find you.
